Jurgen Ziesmann was born in Germany, and grew up in the tiny farming village of Hundheim. He graduated from the University of Bayreuth in Germany, with a doctorate in natural science. He worked as a biologist in England, New Zealand, and taught at Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles where he also took art classes. He is now a biology professor at Lynchburg College. He believes that art and science have always gone hand- in-hand. He explains that his work resembles biology. He likes to mimic the biological processes and allows his lines and shapes on paper to grow and develop naturally.
