Randall Stoltzfus paints in a distinctive style of organic abstraction, using thousands of hand-painted circles to build images that reference landscape and the natural world. His work explores two fundamental relationships: a poetic connection to physical subject matter and a direct engagement with the sensation of light itself.
Born in 1971 and raised in rural Virginia, Stoltzfus earned his B.A. in Studio Art with highest distinction from the University in Washington D.C. His work has been shown internationally, with recent solo exhibitions at Blank Space in New York (2019, 2016, 2013) and significant commissioned works including two 13-foot paintings for P&O Cruises’ Arvia in 2022. He has exhibited across the United States, in Korea, and in Italy, where he was an artist in residence at an active psychiatric hospital. His paintings are held in several public collections including the Centro Pari Opportunitá (Palazzo Penna, Perugia, Italy, Mennonite Church USA, and the DC Council on the Arts and Humanities, as well as numerous private collections throughout the U.S. and abroad. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
