Elise Schweitzer is an Associate Professor of Art at Hollins University. Her paintings depict large-scale figurative action, and intimate abstractions of light and form. Equestrians, skydivers, and party crashers populate her figurative canvases, while her abstractions, architectural units of windows and enclosures are shadowed and illuminated by imaginary lights. She paints from memory and observation. She studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, then participated in overseas study in Florence, Italy, and received her MFA from Indiana University.
