Jim Muehlemann, a 2019 Professor Emeritus at Randolph College (formerly Randolph-Macon Woman's College) has pursued a long and successful career as a celebrated painter and educator. He earned a BFA from the University of Illinois, an MFA from Syracuse University, and spent time in the vibrant art world of NYC before coming to Virginia. He also lived in Italy for a few years and has been in many group exhibitions in the United States and in Italy. Muehlemann has had solo exhibitions in New York at Pamela Auchincloss Gallery, Penine Hart Gallery, Althea Viafora Gallery, as well as the Paul Cava Gallery in Philadelphia. In Virginia, he has had solo exhibitions at the Maier Museum of Art, the UVA Fayerweather Gallery, and Riverviews Craddock-Terry Gallery. He has been the recipient of many grants and awards, including Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation grants and the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome, Italy.
