Lucia Coates is a graduate from Randolph Macon Women’s College where she majored in studio art. Lucia has been painting and making art in the Lynchburg area for over 50 years. Her works have been published in national magazines, exhibited both regionally and nationally and are in collections throughout the United States and abroad. She worked as a Commercial Stained Glass Artist in Lynchburg designing and painting large church windows for 12 years.
Lucia Coates’ paintings are inspired by her enduring fascination with the beauty of nature and how it shapes each painting she creates:
“I have an endless fascination with the elegance of lines found in nature. The gracefulness of the curve of a branch, the intersection of two translucent leaves where light creates beautiful forms, or the vibrant colors of flower petals that all come together in natural rhythm that give me limitless and compelling subjects for my paintings. I start with an emphasis on the lines I’m drawn to and fill in with color and light until I achieve a cohesive whole.”
