Mina Mohtasham graduated with a BFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2021 and received her certificate from Lyme Academy of Fine Art in 2023. She is a two time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant and her work is exhibited internationally. Although she is primarily a painter, her work also explores the mediums of drawing and figurative sculpture. 

“Capturing a likeness is important to me - not just in terms of a portrait of someone, but in finding and documenting the particularity of an experience. I want the paintings to preserve a moment in time while also maintaining an organized and coherent design. My paintings are an attempt to balance color harmony, shape design, and strong drawing and I try to counteract the imposed abstraction of flat, collage-like shapes with an illusionistic sense of volume, space and light quality, ultimately existing somewhere between invention and faithful observation. My work seems to unfold organically as I make it, and I’m usually surprised with what the painting ends up becoming, even if I start out with an intended goal.”

Mina is currently based in Philadelphia, PA and Japan and teaches internationally.
