Steven Francis Coates studied photo communications at California State University, Fullerton, and did post-graduate work in fine art at James Madison University. His photographic art spans the globe, with images from New York City to Paris to Istanbul. Known originally for his black and white photos, he moved to color work with recent exhibitions of his work from India and Cuba. He refers to himself as a street-style photographer who often strives for rhythm in crowded street images, but also appreciates and captures harmony and tranquility. Steve has had numerous one-man exhibitions over the years, including the Academy Center of the Arts, the Chrysler Museum, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Art. He has consistently won awards for his work. In addition, he has taught as an adjunct professor at Lynchburg College and has led study abroad trips. As co-owner of Montana Plains Bakery for many years and an avid art collector, Steve has now opened the Steven Francis Fine Art gallery in Wyndhurst.
