A unique multi-location exhibition featuring well-known and celebrated Central Virginia artists as well as emerging artists. The title, “new;real!” refers to the representational work by these artists who work in recognizable subject matter but approach their work with full understanding of the contemporary practices of the late 20th and early 21st century- and who bring their own unique style and vision to their art. The dominant movements of Abstract Expressionism, Conceptual Art, and many more contemporary ways of thinking about art have challenged artists to see differently, to pull away from older forms of painterly realism, and to find new and interesting ways to express visual reality while still adhering to recognizable forms and subject matter.
